Portraits

Lately, I've been toying with the idea of having a portrait
of Tony and I made as a Christmas present to ourselves.

I've seen some really gorgeous ones on Etsy.
They all seem to be in about the same price range,
from $50-$85.

Here are some of my favorites!

Wouldn't a custom portrait be the perfect wedding gift?!

Do you know of any other artists out there that offer custom portraits?
I'd LOVE to see some more!

New! Embroidered Leaf Rosette Headbands

Embroidery is probably my favorite hobby.
My Mom taught me the basics when I was around ten or so.
It's just relaxing and so gratifying to see your work as you go.
I've wanted to bring my love of embroidery into a design for awhile now.
Here you have the Rosette headbands with embroidered leaves,
vintage fabric layered on wool felt, accented by an over sized rosette.
I believe these are my favorite yet!
I hope that you like them too.

Three Ingredient Mango Jam

My sister Rose is super talented
She makes jewelry, she sews, she cross stiches,
she bakes, she cooks, she gardens...you get the picture?

She recently went through a bit of an obsession  -
with Jam.
Lucky for you, she decided to share her recipes here!

I have three to share with you this week,
we'll start with her tried and true Mango jam.

Mango Jam
2lbs. mango (about 4 or so mangos)
1/2c. sugar
3/4c. water
Cut up your mango, I like to peel then cut the flesh away from the pit.  Dice your slices into small and med. chunks.  I like to do small and med because the small pieces will turn into pulp and I want to have little pieces of fruit every few bites.  Place all of your mango into a pot and add sugar and water.  You will want to bring this up to a boil and let boil for about 5 minutes or so, until it thickens.  Then pour cooked jam into sterilized jars and seal according to canning directions.

Enjoy!

My Cat Officially has 8 Lives....

If you have a cat, I'm sure you can relate to this story in some way.
We went to Sam's Club last week to pick up a giant bag of cat litter (totally ironic)...
When we got home, Tony set the bag of litter on the ground.
Who knew that would be the action that would make Bronco
jump THROUGH the front window.
The noise scared him so badly that he just ran from the ground,
launched himself over the couch and hit the window at full speed.

I was sure that my 100% indoor cat would be covered in blood outside,
he was FINE! Just shaken up.

Thank goodness Tony was there to patch up the gigantic hole in the window.
That's my best "Seriously, Bronco? Through the window?" face.

How did that adorable, tiny kitten turn into such a huge beast?

You don't often see a cat lose one of their 9 lives...
I hope he spends the 8 he has left very wisely.

Warby Parker.

I'm joining the Warby Parker club.
I need a new pair of spectacles and honestly,
you can't beat their one for one policy,
and the price includes scratch proof lenses
and anti-reflective coated lenses!
All for just under $100.

Here are the styles that I chose for my free (yes, free)
at home try on.
I thought I'd share pictures so you could get a feel for some of the styles,
in case you are thinking of getting some for yourself!

Tony and I are definitely leaning toward zagg in tennessee whiskey.
(hence the two pictures at the end.)
I love clear frames - he says they look like shop glasses.
These are the perfect compromise!

I'm sure you have a few questions after seeing these pictures:
1. do you always smirk in pictures?
2. why is your grass so dead?
3. where did you get that amazing rosette necklace?

Answers:
1. apparently glasses make me feel smirky.
2. living in the desert = dead grass.
If you're too cheap to spend the money to water it.
3. Why thank you! I got that amazing rosette necklace here.
